Students are learning about adding and subtracting fractions, finding equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, and finding the fraction of a whole number. We ended our study of the American Revolution by creating Twitter pages and now we will move into understanding Manifest Destiny and Westward Expansion.

11/8/2017 0 Comments November LearningThis month we are working on learning more about fact and opinion and the different types of characters in a story. We are trying to expand our knowledge of understanding characters by finding the difference between round, flat, dynamic, and static characters in a story. We will also be reviewing point of view and theme. In math, students just finished work with finding factors and multiples, solving addition and subtraction number stories, and algebra. We will be starting a unit on decimals next and students will be able to add and subtract, compare and order, read and write decimals by the end. In writing, we continue to work hard with our genius hour projects. Interviews are wrapping up, organizers are getting filled out, and papers will be written in the next couple weeks.
10/6/2017 0 Comments October LearningThis month we will start Unit 3 in math. This unit covers multiplication, division, number sentences, and algebra. Students will learn about fact families, composite and prime numbers, factors, multiples, and solving for a variable in number sentences. In reading we will read a tall tale and learn about characterization, talk more about story structure, and fact and opinion. We will also continue to work on our genius hour projects and interviews will begin. It's a very exciting time in our classroom! Ask your child what new things they are learning for their project. I'm sure they would love to share their passion with you!
9/8/2017 0 Comments September LearningWe are starting unit 2 for math this week. Students will be learning about reading and writing large numbers and finding landmark (maximum, minimum, median, mode, and range) numbers for a set of data and by interpreting a graph. We will also continue our work on adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers and drawing geometric shapes.
In reading, we will work on cause and effect, continue our work with plot diagrams as we do our read aloud, and eventually we will start work with theme. As always, we continue to work with vocabulary and spelling and students are encouraged to practice those words at home each week. |
